Welcome to the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia! It’s an early pick-up from your Kununurra accommodation for a truly special day out. Enjoy aerial views on your scenic charter flight across the Kimberley, as you make your way from Kununurra to the Mitchell Plateau. Look out over changing landscape as you pass the King George River and mighty Twin Falls – the highest in Western Australia – before reaching the turquoise waters of the Kimberley coastline near Berkeley River.
After landing at Mitchell Plateau, you’ll board a helicopter, taking you to the start of your 5km guided walk to the top of Mitchell Falls. Take in Lake Mertens and Aboriginal rock art sites on this adventurous walk before arriving at the falls. There is time for a picnic lunch and a swim above the falls post-walk. Later you’ll board your private charter plane once more to enjoy views of the Cockburn Ranges and El Questro wilderness area before landing at El Questro.
With a late afternoon arrival to the Homestead, you’ll have time to check in and make yourselves comfortable before your host provides an overview of the plan for the next few days. This evening dinner and drinks are hosted on the clifftop overlooking Chamberlain Gorge so you can dine under the stars. Enjoy a choice of modern Australian cuisine showcasing local, seasonal produce and fine wines.
Start your day early and have breakfast on the sweeping veranda overlooking Chamberlain Gorge so you can watch the rising sun transform the surrounding ranges with a soft pink glow.
After breakfast, you’ll be led by your guides on a 1.5-hour walk to one of El Questro’s most iconic sites, Emma Gorge. After navigating the terrain into the gorge you’ll be rewarded with an amphitheatre of towering red cliff walls surrounding a wide natural pool. A droplet waterfall and a small thermal water outlet trickle down from the rocks. An incredibly pretty spot to take a well-deserved swim and marvel at the scale of the gorge walls above. After a walk back out of Emma Gorge, you’ll head back to the Homestead just in time for lunch and a chilled glass of West Australian white.
This afternoon holds in store an experience reserved for the few Homestead guests. Likely a highlight of your trip, you will enjoy exclusive access to the Zebedee thermal springs and soak in the warm healing waters while it is closed to the public. The walk into the Springs is an experience in itself, as the landscape is so utterly different from what one might expect. Walk through ancient palms under a rainforest canopy to the peaceful oasis of Zebedee Springs. You’ll be thoroughly relaxed by the time you reach the Homestead to enjoy evening drinks and dinner.
Today’s walk starts easily enough with a pleasant stroll through palms and rainforest, along a spring-fed creek at the base of the gorge. You’ll encounter some boulders along the valley before arriving at a small, crystal-clear swimming hole. Relax here with a drink in the beauty of the rainforest. Choose to continue on as the hike becomes more challenging to reach the truly spectacular El Questro waterfall and swimming hole. For a more relaxed afternoon, your guide will bring you back to the Homestead where you could enjoy the pool.
This evening, you have the opportunity to join a quintessential El Questro experience – an open air safari adventure up to a scenic lookout high above Chamberlain Gorge. Enjoy wine and cheese as the sunsets over the Kimberley. You’ll be sure to capture the perfect image to remember the landscape in the changing evening light. Later enjoy one last Homestead dinner under the stars with something special to toast a magnificent stay.
For the early risers in the group, this morning offers a chance to join a guided bird-watching walk as the sunrises at El Questro.
Your guide will lead you in spotting unique birds and other wildlife flourishing in the early hours before the Kimberley heat kicks in. Head back to the Homestead for a final breakfast before you make your way back to Kununurra. Enjoy the scenic drive across a short section of Gibb River Road on your journey back to Kununurra.
