If you are ready to learn to ski or snowboard, then there is no better place to tackle the challenge than New Zealand. From tiny tots to old dogs looking to learn new tricks, New Zealand has the variety of locations, facilities and dedicated snow professionals to get you up and carving on skis or boards. Working out where to go and what to do can be a bit daunting, so here is some information and options to get you on the right track!

Whether it is your first time on the snow or you want to advance your skills in a specific area, we have Group Lessons tailored to your needs! Our experienced coaches will work with you to develop your skiing or snowboarding skills and fine-tune your technique.

FIRST TIMER: Your first time skiing or snowboarding.

LEARNER ZONE: You have previously skied or snowboarded but are still learning the basics.

GREEN ZONE: You have used chairlifts and surface lifts to access Green Zone terrain but are not yet skiing Blue Zone terrain.

BLUE & RED ZONES: You are comfortable on Blue Zone terrain and advancing to more difficult Blue or Red Zone terrain.

RED & BLACK ZONES: You are an experienced skier or snowboarder and are exploring Red and Black Zone terrain.

Fine Print

Group Lessons are suited to a wide range of abilities:

  • First Timer: this is your first time skiing or riding on snow
  • Learner Zone: You have previously skied or snowboarded but still learning the basics and progressing to Green Runs
  • Green Zone: You have skied (or snowboarded) and used chairlifts on green runs, progressing to Blues
  • Blue – Red Zone: You are comfortable on blue runs, advancing to more difficult Blues or Red Runs
  • For more advanced Red/Black Zone skiers or riders: please see our High-Performance Workshops
  • Please note that kids 13+ may join adult group lessons on the day depending on height, ability, and fit.

Lesson Details:

  • Lessons start at 10am and run to 3:30pm
  • Unsupervised lunch from approximately 12.20pm – 1.30pm
  • Please arrive at the lesson meeting area on the snow 15 minutes before your lesson start time
  • Plan to be on the mountain an hour before your lesson starts so you have enough time to collect your rental equipment and MyPass Card. You can also pick up your rental equipment and MyPass Card in the Snow Centre located in The Station building at 25 Shotover Street
  • Please note that a Group Lesson with only one person in it will receive a reduced lesson time
  • If you’re catching the Ski Bus, please aim for the 7.30am Ski Bus
  • Please note that our Lessons do not include a Lift Pass or Rentals.
